Political Debate Breaks Out in 7th Grade

November 2 - The seventh grade history class engaged in a spirited debate about the Revolutionary War. Each student was given a specific person from the time period directly before the war. The students researched the character and wrote a debate brief to help them prepare for discussion. Characters were Loyalists, Patriots, or Undecided on the issue of American revolution.  Some of the characters were: King George III, John Adams, Patrick Henry, Thomas Paine, Crispus Attucks, Molly Brant, Rebecca Franks, the Reverend Samuel Seabury, Thomas Hutchinson, Logan (an Iroquois), Ann Lee, the Earl of Effingham, and a host of other characters. Each character took their role seriously and became deeply involved in the social, political, and economic issues of the eighteenth century. Props were used. One was a box of  tea, direct from the Tea Party, that was dramatically used to hold order within the discussion. The Continental Congress and the English Parliament would have been lucky to have such enthusiastic concern! And if you look at the pictures, we are also working on the correct spelling of Britain!
