A fine showing for a first time out

Girls' Varsity Volleyball

September 15, 2009
- The Seattle Academy girls’ volleyball team, in their first ever varsity game, put up a strong fight before falling to the Northwest School in a closely contested contest, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.

“I thought our girls played a great match, especially for the first varsity match in our school’s history,” said Cardinals head coach Mindy Watson.  “I was impressed by the poise of our players, especially many of our freshmen.”

Despite the loss, Seattle Academy received some fine performances by many players.

“We had some great sets from freshman Ellie Engel and I thought we had some great serves by Selina Richardson and Maria Pagano, also both freshmen,” said Mindy.  “I also thought we had some excellent blocking and attacks by Quinne Hanrahan ‘10, Claire Mason ’13, and Sierra Evans ‘11.”

Next up for the Cardinals is a match today at Seattle Academy at 6:30 as they play host to the University Prep Pumas.  The girl’s JV volleyball team will open up the night’s events with a contest at 5 PM.  The Cardinals will close out the week hosting Annie Wright at 6:30 on Thursday.
